You can rest easy, your coffee bag label may be misleading but you did get your preferred roast level! Here's why: Roast levels can be tricky to categorize because there is no standard or consistent definition. What's light to one roaster can be dark to another.
We have a standard spectrum that we keep consistent with all of our coffees, even though some of the roasters may have different roast levels on their bags.
Here is how we categorize coffees by roast level:
- Light: Light brown bean, looks toasted
- Medium: Solid brown with occasional light oils developing on the surface
- Dark: Dark brown with an oily surface
